Roe is no More

Updated: Jul 19, 2022

The Kelowna Right to Life Society celebrates the historic U.S. Supreme Court “Dobbs” decision overturning Roe v Wade. We believe abortion is the unjust taking of an innocent human life and harms women and men emotionally, physically, mentally, and spiritually.

The day is coming when the personhood of all pre-born human beings will be recognized and protected by law in the U.S. and in Canada. Until that day, we and millions of other pro-life Canadians will continue to stand up and speak out on behalf of our unborn brothers and sisters, one hundred thousand of whom are legally killed by abortion every year in Canada alone.

Overturning Roe v Wade has been a primary objective for the pro-life movement in the U.S. for nearly fifty years, and today that objective has been realized. It’s the biggest victory for life in North America since the practice of pre-born child sacrifice was legalized in the U.S. in 1973 and in Canada in 1969. Abortion is now a criminal act in as many as two dozen states, and the battle to restore legal protection for all unborn children will continue.

Sadly, it appears the court has stopped short of recognizing that unborn children are persons with a right to life guaranteed by the constitution, but the decision is a major step toward that end. Eventually, abortion will be abolished in the U.S. and in Canada. It is too unjust, too evil, too repugnant to continue forever.

It took a constitutional amendment, not a Supreme Court decision, to give African slaves citizenship and personhood rights, and that is the ultimate goal for us as well: constitutional protection of the right to life for all human beings from the moment of conception.

The truth of abortion has been cleverly obscured behind euphemisms such as “choice,” “reproductive care,” and the like. Meanwhile, dehumanizing labels like “mass of tissue,” “clump of cells,” and “parasites,” have duped society into dismissing the humanity of the unborn. We are blind to the slaughter in our midst, but in time our eyes will be opened.

Roe is responsible for the deaths of more than 63,000,000 pre-born babies in the U.S., while an estimated 5,000,000 babies have been legally killed and torn piecemeal from their mother’s womb here in Canada. This is a bittersweet victory for those of us who have given our time, energy, money, lives to this cause. Such a massive loss of human life is hard to process, it pains the soul, but seeing a horrible injustice you’ve opposed for years come to an end ignites elation.

Understandably, the aborting of Roe will spark rage in those who have been falsely convinced that killing a child before he or she is born is a “woman’s right,” while tears of joy will be shed by those who have not. June 24th, 2022 is a great day for humanity and for the advancement of justice for all.
